DPWH gives a digital preview of 32-kilometer bridge that will connect Bataan with Cavite

If there's one major road project that we are truly excited about, it's the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge. Approved by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) earlier this year, the 32-kilometer mega bridge project will significantly reduce travel time between the two provinces, as well as provide a direct link between Region IV-A and Region III.

But what will the bridge look like when it is actually finished? Well, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently announced that the 32-km bridge project is indeed feasible. With it, the DPWH is now focusing on finishing the detailed engineering design (DED) which is currently taking place.

To show how the bridge will look like, the government agency recently released a video that displays the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge in the digital realm. The approaches of the bridge will be constructed on Roman Highway in Mariveles, Bataan, and in Antero Soriano Highway in Naic, Cavite. It will consist of the South Channel Bridge and the North Channel Bridge. Meanwhile, the main bridge span will measure 900 meters in length. A wide array of cables will keep the bridge stable amidst the high winds that the infrastructure will be experiencing.

As mentioned before, the major road project will have four lanes in total (two per direction), and will have a center barrier, guard rails, and light posts. Also seen on the video is the 'Turn Around Facility' which will be built along certain sections of the bridge. It will serve as an 'elevated roundabout' that will allow motorists to get to their destinations. The DPWH also mentioned the possibility of building a connector to Corregidor Island to promote local tourism.

With the DPWH still busy with the DED, perhaps it will take some time before the construction of the PhP 187 billion Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge will officially begin. With a budget like that and plenty of ground (or in this case water) to cover, this bridge will be a massive undertaking.

But should the bridge be completed in the near future, the DPWH claims it will cut travel time between Cavite and Bataan from 5 hours to just 20 – 30 minutes with an average speed of 60 km/h.
